Connecting the Driver
to the Automation

Pairdriver is founded on three main ideas. These ideas are layered to form a driving environment where the driver and automated driving system function together as one team.

Interaction
The driver and automated driving system communicate using haptic information felt through the steering wheel.
Arbitration
The automated driving system adapts its actions to support the driver's steering intention.
Inclusion
The driver's steering intention is incorporated into the automated driving trajectory.

Benefits 01

Continuous and Intuitive Driver Assistance

Pairdriver continuously controls the steering reaction force and smoothly transitions from one function to another. The automation communicates the degree of risk to the driver with an appropriate reaction torque. This intuitive means of communication, compared to warning sounds or lights, increases the driver's confidence in the automated system and enriches the driving experience.

Benefits 02

Supporting the highest level of safety in driving collaboration

Pairdriver has been designed to meet the highest standards of driving collaboration measured in automobile safety assesments such as NCAP and IIHS. Our unique software solution allows our customers to customize the steering feel while maintaining a high level of safety in both hands on and hands off automated driving.

Benefits 03

Adding New Value with Software Solutions

Unlike conventional integrated hardware-software systems, Pairdriver is a framework which can be deployed to any hardware platform by using proprietary control technology. This enables the desired steering feel to be developed through software alone. In addition, new functions can be easily implemented over-the-air, allowing Pairdriver to serve as a longlasting software framework for steering applications. Pairdriver is a software solution designed for the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) era where the value of the car is enhanced overtime.

Basic functions

Enhanced Driver Assistance Functions

By using Pairdriver in the design of driver assistance functions, drivers can obtain intuitive and consistent steering reaction forces which facilitate cognitive understanding of the intention of the driver assistance system. The resulting override free ADAS fosters a sense of trust and security in the driving automation while also improving their effectiveness and ease of use. Our range of Pairdriver enhanced ADAS is constantly expanding but you can see how five of our core functions work below.

01

Lane Departure Warning
(LDW)

This safety function communicates the risk of imminent lane departure by vibrating the steering wheel. Pairdriver's advanced steering angle control provides highly responsive and reproducible warning vibrations. The intensity of the vibrations varies according to the driving situation to inform the driver of the potential dangers.

02

Lane Keeping Assist
(LKA)

This safety function actively prevents lane departure when signs of deviation are detected. The danger is continuously communicated to the driver by the steering reaction torque which also keeps the vehicle in the lane. The strength of the reaction force is easily customizable and conveys the degree of risk. High performance angle control and cooperative steering ensures the ability for smooth driver intervention while maintaining the LKA function.

03

Lane Centering Assist
(LCA)

This driver assistance function holds the vehicle at the center of the lane while driving. A smooth guidance torque is generated according to the position of the vehicle and the driver's steering operation. Decades of expertise in the field of power-assisted steering allows Pairdriver to maintain a natural steering feel at all times.

04

Assisted Lane Change
(ALC)

This driver assistance function supports the driver when the turn signal is activated and the lane change maneuver is manually initiated. A smooth guidance torque is transmitted to the driver which leads the vehicle to the adjacent lane. The intention of the automated driving system is intuitively felt by the changing guidance torque during the maneuver.

05

Parking Assist
(PA)

This driver assistance function guides the vehicle into the parking slot while preventing collisions with nearby obstacles. Manual adjustments with Parking Assist are possible without deactivation of the function. Upon approaching an obstacle, the steering torque alerts the driver and redirect the vehicle. Pairdriver can customize the strength of the reaction torque to clearly communicate danger.
